Breastfeeding or nursing is the feeding of babies and young children with milk from a woman’s breast. It is recommended to begin breastfeeding within the first hour of life and to allow it as often and as much as the baby wants. During the first few weeks of life babies may nurse eight to twelve times a day (every two to three hours).

Tongue Tie

A tongue-tie is a fold of membrane that connects the tongue to the floor of the mouth. Sometimes the membrane can be shorter than normal causing some restriction in the movement of the tongue.

The normal development of a fetus includes the growth of little bits of tissue called frenums (also known as frenulums), which attach the tongue to the floor of the lower jaw. We are all born with some of this tissue, but for some babies it is so tight that they cannot move their tongues properly. This can affect their ability to breastfeed, or even take a bottle or a pacifier.

Lactation Consultancy Services

A lactation consultant is an allied health professional who specializes in the clinical management of breastfeeding.

Lactation consultants commonly work in hospitals, physician or midwife practices, public health programs, and private practice.

Lactation consultants help women who want to return to work or school meet their breastfeeding goals. They’re familiar with breastfeeding equipment, like breast pumps, and give breastfeeding moms tips on how to safely store expressed breast milk.
